Until April 30, GUESS Foundation will donate 10% of proceeds from all denim and select accessories sales (including watches, jewellery, shoes, fragrances and eyewear) to Peace over Violence: a non-profit organization dedicated to building healthy communities to be free from sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence.
This marks GUESS’ third consecutive year as official fashion sponsor; and since, the iconic denim brand has donated enough for Peace Over Violence to increase its services by 25%, through a 24-hour hotline crisis intervention, therapy sessions, sexual abuse response teams, educational events and more.
The campaign was started when the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans. The justices felt that because her jeans were so tight that she must have aided her assailant in removing her jeans, thereby implying consent. Peace over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign, which has since evolved into a global movement. Wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against the destructive attitudes about sexual assault. This cause is very important to me and I hope you as well. Until April 30th I will be wearing jeans and continuing a discussion with my friends and peers. Sexual violence will never end until we choose to end it through changing social norms, addressing everyday sexism and supporting victims.
