Exfoliation is one of the best things you can do for your skin, it removes the dead skin allowing for the rejuvenation and the glow we all look for. I have been revamping my skin care routine over the past months, looking for higher quality products that work to give me my best skin possible but are more natural and less harmful to the environment.

Jouviance is a Canadian company founded through science and formulated through the use of the highest concentrations of active ingredients backed through clinical studies and supported by patented technologies. They have built their reputation of effective, dermatologist-developed, anti ageing products that deliver radiant, younger-looking skin.

I had heard of teh effectiveness of the Jouviance line but was surprised when I came across their Jouviance Exfoliant Gentle Purifying Scrub as it is a mechanical/physical scrub but it's 100% natural. Now for those of you who don't eat, sleep and dream beauty (I know it's an obsession but at least I share my knowledge) a mechanical, sometimes called physical, exfoliant is one that has that gritty feel to it and this texture is most commonly made using microbeads.

Microbeads have been in the news a lot lately and not for the best of reasons. As effective as these powerful little beads are, usually tiny pebble of plastic, they wreak havoc on our water systems because they are so miniscule that water-treatment systems fail to capture them and they end up in our lakes and river, all the way into the gullets of fish. Loblaw Canada, Canada's largest retailer, recently announced that a long with microbeads they were going to ban triclosan and phthalates due to the high environmental consequences of their use. The move of such large corporations is highly commendable. I was incredibly happy though to see Jouviance taking the lead and coinicidentally enough-their product is exclusively available in Loblaw's owned Shoppers Drug Mart.

Now for as wonderful as their environmental concern and scientifically developed product is, if it didn't work I wouldn't be sharing it with you. I have used other exfoliants, both natural and microbead filled, and I have always found the best results unfortunately with microbeads. I was hopeful but a bit apprehensive before I started using the Jouviance Exfoliant and I was overjoyed when my expectations were exceeded.

Like any good exfoliant should do, the Jouviance Exfoliant gently cleanses and lifts away dead skin cells, unclogs pores, softens fine lines, reveals radiant skin all while purifying, reviving and hydrating your skin leaving it soft and smooth. I have very sensitive skin and using any exfoliant can be an irritant but this one was not. In place of synthetic microbeads Jouviance uses Olive Seed Powder, 100% natural spheres that unclog pores from excess sebum and impurities, and Bamboo Stem Extract, exfoliates dead skin cells for softer skin and stimulates microcirculation. The exfoliant is also filled with other natural and effective ingrediants that work alongside these physical exfoliaters such as shea butter, which accelerates the healing process and evens out complexion and moisturizes in depth with natural biolipids, sacha inchi seed oil, which is rich in omega 3s and 6s which calms and softens while reinforcing the skin barrier, and finally rosewood and lavender essential oils which are ideal for sensitive skin like my own and are naturally antibacterial, healing and purifying all while adding a calming scent. This product is luxurious and I have happily added it to my night time ritual, the rich feeling across my face accompanied by the soothing scent is perfect as I wind down at the end of the day to lay down my head to sleep.

I highly recommend the Jouviance Exfoliant as a replacement of any exisisting exfoliant you may already be using that could pose harmful environmental risks. Not only will you be making a better choice for the fishies in the deep blue sea but you will be adding an element of luxury to your skin care routine that is highly effective. If you don't currently use an exfoliant, one word: GAMECHANGER. The results delievered by an exfoliant are unlike any other skin care product, at $24 this is excellently priced (plus you only use a couple of times a week) and is true investment into your skin. GIve it a try, I promise your skin and the Earth will thank you.
