If you have been reading The Blond Champagne you know that I love fashion with a cause. Fashion that serves both it's function of style but has the purpose to help others or raise awareness of an imporatant social issue.
Lululemon is an innovator in both it's apparel and how it incorporates itself within the communities where their stores are located. As a large corporaion it is rare to see it's macro commitment to social issues but at the micro level working with local grass roots organizations.

This week in Lululemon's Queen Street West Toronto store a new capsule collection will be launched in collaboration with Peace Collective. Peace Collective is an inspiring Toronto based organization that brings together city lovers with socially conscious minds and a grassroots program that is determined to feed the impoverished in the developing world. Through individual apparel sales, consumers are able to feed a child for a month through affiliate charity partner World Food Program USA. Additionally, a portion of sales go to local Toronto initiatives. Peace Collective creative director Yanal Dhailieh decribes the upcoming collaboration:
"We have always loved what Lululemon does for the community, and what the brand itself is doing for social awareness in North America, and we live by the same rules. Peace Collective was created not just to be the voice of pride for our fabulous city, but to be a vehicle of change for global issues worldwide. Through our communities we get to affect change in other communities and to me, that is the very definition of community."

The creation of the brand Peace Collective is truly inspiring. Yanal Dhailieh felt that he had wanted to find a way to effect change for the better, believing that "if you’re going to be here on this earth then there is a necessity to make a difference." Feeling discouraged through doubt and complacency his dream to do so had all but faded until he read "Start Something That Matters," by The Blond Champagne favourite Blake Mycoskie founder of TOMS. Dhailieh was inspired and the voice that once told him he couldn't achieve his dreams of a socially conscious lifestyle brand faded and the innate belief that he could took over. Using the "one for one" model, something he believes all companies should incorporate, Peace Collective creates throroughly thought our pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and stay true to the motivating ideals of the company. At the end of the day Dhailieh "want[s] the Peace Collective to represent the idea that in life you can love your work, follow your dreams and passions, while also having a positive impact on the world," a message that applies and can inspire us all to make the life we want.
The collection is adorned with Toronto Centric messages and positive mantras that align with the positive lifestyle promoted by both Lululemon and Peace Collective. It launches June 11th and through July coinciding with the PanAm games. I highly recommend you make it to Lululemon's Queen St West Toronto location as quickly as you can as these pieces are sure to go quickly and with 40% of the sales of the clothing going to Peace Collective you can know that not only will you look good but you will be doing good as well.
