The short film doesn't get near the resepct it deserves. Too often we think of short films as a time killer before a film. Short film, like short stories, are misunderstood as being easier but if anything they're harder-you need a beginning, middle and an end without feeling rushed and still having to pack the punch of a great story. Funny enough, what we now consider to be full length used to be the anomaly and short films the norm.

Air Canada's inflight EnRoute Magazine has been hosting the Short film festival since 2007 in both it's in flight entertainment as well as in screenings across the country in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. This film festival is an amazing showcase of the up and coming talent we have in this country. The films screened here in Toronto offered a wide range of stories and emotions. From stories of young love, diability, male eating disorder, fear, loss and the terrors of a little girl-the audience laughed, gasped and felt for the characters baring their souls on screen.

Short film offers an intimacy not always felt with full length film. The winning film, Light, tells a very uniquely Canadian story of a man new to Canada, having to face a staggering personal loss without the immediate support and proximity of his family. The audience connected immediately with the character-I sat there just wanting to help him, feeling a helplessness similar to his , in not being able to.

After the screening I attended the VIP Gala and awards at 2nd floor events. An amazing spread of food as well as Jackson Triggs Wines and Mill Street brewery beer awaited the guests. The ceremony was hosted by Etalk's Devon Soltendieck and recognised not only the winning film but others and their accomplihments.

Thank you for the generous gift bag-a beautiful take away from a fun evening recognising shortfilm

The winning film along with others are being screened on Air Canada's in flight entertainment and I can not recommend it enough that you take the time to watch these films. They are rewarding and are exquisite examples of the power of the medium.
