As the weather gets colder and Paris Fashion Week starts to wrap up I was beginning to feel that I was going to have to accept Fall was upon us.... sigh....but fortunatley for me World Master Card Fashion Week is fast approaching and I can still live in the world of Spring/Summer 2015.

World MasterCard Fashion Week takes place in Toronto at David Pecaut Square and is a high energy, creativity driven, fashion extravaganza! Among some of the big names at WMCFW, Joe Fresh, Pink Tartan, Bustle, there are some amazing designers whom you may not have heard of that I feel you need to know about. The Next Big Thing is here.....and it's way better than a smart phone!

Monday October 20th:

Mercedes Benz Start Up- is always an amazing show, it's like a glimpse into the future as many of the designers return in years to come in their own featured shows. It's an ongoing initiative driven to support up and coming designers who have been in business for less than 5 years. The program offers mentorship and guidance in the difficult world of Fashion. There are 6 designers featured this year and one whom I feel you should really take a look at is Laura Siegel.

Laura Siegel showed last season at WMCFW F/W 15. When her collection was shown in the studio everyone sitting in the room was deeply moved by what was presented to them. Laura Siegel's clothing is ethically handcrafted, easy to wear textured pieces. The pieces are designed in collaboration with artisans in Asia and Latin America.

You can feel the magnitude of the clothing in front of you. However, no matter how great the cause and story is behind the collection the clothing is stand alone beautiful design.

Elan & Castor. Soooooo beyond good, I can't even begin to convey my love for this Candian designer. Elan & Castor is the beautiful creation of Leah Antoinette. It's a striking ready to wear line, it's clothing "that loves you back". Leah focuses on the balance between raw strength and frailty that all women exude.

Using beautiful knits, recycled vintage fur and beautiful distressed leather. When Emma and I went to a presentation of her work at Elle Hardware (amazing shop-Queen West-get on it) both of us were going beserk over each piece and how easily they would incorporate in our lives-just make us walk a bit taller.

Hilary MacMillan is that young woman who is just so cool it hurts, and it translates into her remarkable clothing. Last season, her F/W 14 collection was presented in the studio and as the models walked by there were constant whispers from the audience about how badly all of us wanted each piece that was being sent down the runway.

Hilary is inspired by her life, the world of fashion, the history of fashion and it is all summed up in her feminine collection of invesment, signature pieces. Her clothing will take you through your life and ensure you are the focus of every room you walk into. Hilary fills the gap in today's market of fast fashion-her clothes are stylish-covetable and I promise you that once you see it you will fall as deeply in love with it as I have.

Mikhael Kale is a true hidden gem in Canadian Fashion and if this is the first time you have heard his name you are sure to have seen some of his outrageously, magnificent creations. Kale's beautifully edgy fashion moved me in a powerful way that I have rarely felt before. I left his show in a trance yet I was exhilarated and excited by what I had just seen.

Mikhael Kale has been featured in The New York Times Style Magazine, Wallpaper, Dazed and Confused, V Magazine, WWD, Nylon, Surface and has dressed celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Sienna Miller and Beyonce. What can I say, Keep Calm and Be Yonce.

He is a true artist. His pieces are living, breathing works of art that become an extension of your best, fierce, self when you have them on.

HD HOMME, the brain child of Hussein Dhalla , is a Toronto luxury powerhouse. This year at the inaugural TOM Fashion week at the Fairmont Royal York he packed the house and closed the week down. It was a fashion mic drop if there ever was one.

Dhalla's collection exudes the essence of a true gentlemen. His suits are exquisitley tailored and compliment a man in no way I have seen before. It will not be long until a rapper will be rapping about rocking HD HOMME.

This season Dhalla has said "the theme behind this line is Cote d'Azur" it's "inspired by the travelling gentlemen, a man who frequents the French Riviera and knows how to unwind with class." If that does not make you swoon I do not know what will.

Stephan Caras is in a true league of his own. Featured in magazines such as CEO World and Runway as one of the “World’s Top 20 Fashion Designers,” as well as one of the “Top 25 Most Beloved and Inspiring Fashion Designers of the World”. He has worked at such esteemed fashion houses as Guy Laroche and Hermes. Caras brings a true european flair to his designs as you are transported into his dream world while watching his runway show.

This past season his F/W 14 collection had modern, young and fun designs juxtaposed with classic silhouettes. One of his final dresses looked as though it was made by faeries in the dark of the night in a rose garden. His collection is a true testament to feminine beauty and his appreciation for true couture like fashion is evident.
