End of a Scandinavian Summer

My journeys have recently brought me through the lovely cities of Prague and Berlin. With no shortage of culture and history found in both of these countries, it’s easy to be swallowed up in the pulse of it all. In the heart of Prague you will find Old Town, which is home to the inevitable tourist traps, but has no shortage of magical side streets to get lost in and architecture rumored to have inspired Disney himself. If you’re planning a trip on a budget to Prague anytime soon, I would highly recommend looking into the Czech Inn Hostel. I stayed in a 34 bed mixed dorm (yes, sleeping in a room full of strangers seems awfully sketchy, but I promise it was more than okay) and this helped to keep costs even lower. With exposed brick walls and arched ceilings, this hidden gem instantly becomes your home away from home.

From Prague I was to travel by bus to Berlin with a company I advise no one to book with. And I mean NO ONE. After purchasing the cheapest tickets I could find online and failing to read the awful reviews about Orange Ways Bus Company, I was left stranded at the station with no cancellation notice, and all other buses sold out to Berlin. One extremely overpriced train ticket later with no seats left but on the floor, I was on my way to the infamous Deutschland.

Germany is filled with history so rich even those such as myself who are far from a history buff can get carried away. When visiting, I would highly recommend looking into a walking tour around the city. You can always find free ones with well-informed guides, plus you get your exercise in along the way! Once you’ve reenergized from all the walking, I would strongly suggest checking out the notorious nightlife. From clubs located in an old abandoned mansion and others equipped with a small lake and a pizza place, you’re sure to have an unforgettable night in a city with some of the best clubbing in Europe. Take a look at this site for some great tips on the nightlife http://berlinclubs.com.

With my Scandinavian summer and mini backpacking trip now at an end, it’s time to return the reality of university life back in Canada. Although my life will be far less exotic than it has been recently, I’m eager to see where university and all the craziness it has to offer will bring me.

Until next time, Cheers
